Board Members present: Curtis Beech, Debora Burks, Rev. David Elliott, Kathy Hemion, Ann Sealy, and Marsha Williams.

Absent:  None

Quorum: A quorum was present.

Opening Prayer: Rev. David Elliott

Mission/Vision Statement: Affirmed by all present.

Check-In/High Watch:   Curstis held the high watch.


Secretary Report: Minutes from the January 2018 Board Meeting were presented by Rev. David and Debora Burks.

Treasurer Report: A report on budget and finances was presented by Marsha Williams with full discussion following.

Minister Report: Rev. David Elliott

  • The UWM Annual Summit took place last week in VA; Rev David did not attend, as he had indicated he wouldn’t.
  • Our Winter Series “Happy This Year” continues, and it seems to be well-received.
  • Sisters in Spirit’s recent event was successful, and its upcoming event on February 25 is getting some interest on social media.
  • Plans are underway for a children’s Spring Pageant on March 18.
  • Palm Sunday is March 25, when we will celebrate Spiritual Communion.
  • Easter Sunday is April 1.
  • Rev. David closed our account with Comcast on February 14, having opened internet service with Rainier Connect.  That service seems to be working well.
  • Rev. David attempted again to transfer our phone number to a cell phone at MetroPCS, only to find out there was a problem with a PIN number we never had.  By FCC regulations, it must be sent by U.S. mail, so we will be without a phone for a few days.
  • Plans are underway for membership classes & special gatherings to facilitate our pending move.

Committee & Team Report(s)

  • Property Management Team/ Ann Sealy, Chair
    • There are still a few things to be released from the ministry before our move.
    • Ann and her team will continue to pull out what needs to be released and given away.
    • We are making arrangements to hire labor for moving offices this month.

  • Finance Team/ Marsha Williams, Chair:  The subject was raised about moving some of the funds around from the sale of the building, for our protection.
  • Vitality Team/ Denise Demos, Chair
    • The Vitality Team is planning for a Circulation Day on May 18.  Having certain items for sale is a possibility.  The team is in agreement with the idea of offering items to the members first.
    • Mothers’ Day, May 13, we will begin our Baby Shower diaper drive, which will end on Fathers’ Day, June 17.
  • Communication Team/ Raylene Ewing, Chair:  Raylene is responding to communication needs as they arise, in terms of our sale of the building and our planning for the upcoming move.

Ongoing/Old Business:

  • We still need to recruit one Board member to fill a vacancy.
  • MCFHC accepted our rent offer, and is formulating a rental agreement.
  • Rev. David may contact Rob Hagen for assistance in settling on a place to move, when the time comes.

New Business:

The next Board Prayer session is scheduled for March 1 at 6:30 pm.

  • The next regular Board meeting is scheduled for March 15 at 6:30 pm.
  • Board Training is scheduled for Feb. 17 from 10 am – 2 pm.  This will also be designated a Special Board Meeting in case decisions are made.
