Minister Report: Rev. David Elliott

  • Rev. David expressed appreciation for the Board’s willingness to reschedule the January Board meeting and Board Training when he was ill.
  • Our Burning Bowl Ceremony was celebrated on the last Sunday of 2017, rather than the first Sunday of this year, due to the way the calendar fell.  It was well-attended and meaningful for people.
  • Our White Stone Ceremony was celebrated on the first Sunday of 2018 rather than the second Sunday, for the same reason.
  • The UWM Winter Summit is taking place next week in VA, but Rev David will not be attending this year, as it was thought we would like be in a state of transition.
  • Our theme for 2018 is “The Courage to Imagine,” which is also the theme being used by UWM & UWH.  The annual theme concept has developed and deepened in both organizations, and it seems to be well-received here at Unity of Tacoma.
  • This year our annual MLK weekend message was titled “The Courage to Imagine Peace,” which put us in alignment with the UWM & UWH monthly theme.  It seemed to be received well.
  • Our Winter Series began on January 21.  The series is titled “Happy This Year,” and it’s based on the book by Will Bowen, a Unity minister.  After 2 Sundays, the series seems to be going well.
  • Plans are underway for a children’s Spring Pageant, Palm Sunday with Spiritual Communion, and Easter Sunday.
  • Rev. David went to Tacoma Power to close out our account.  The portion allotted in escrow has not been received, so David paid it with the church credit card.  When the escrow check arrives, it will be refunded to us.
  • Rev. David contacted Comcast to close our account, as we are shifting to a cell phone and we need a different plan for internet.  Comcast service will end on February 14.
  • Rev. David went to MetroPCS to port our VOiP number to a cell phone.  A copy of our Comcast bill is required.
  • Rev. David went to Rainier Connect to contract for internet service.  That will begin on February 12.
  • Rev. David purchased a projector for our use in any setting, and will purchase a screen soon, in addition to an electronic piano.
  • Plans are underway for membership classes & special gatherings to facilitate our pending move.
